Playstyles

Off-field Enabler

This is Pyro Traveler’s usual role. They use their Skill and Burst to gain Nightsoul points and apply Pyro from off-field, thus enabling reactions for their teammates.

Burgeon DPS

With their Tap Skill that hits once every second, Pyro Traveler can deal decent AoE damage through Burgeon.

On-field DPS

At C6, Pyro Traveler can stay on-field to deal Pyro-converted attacks. This playstyle requires heavy investment into Pyro Traveler and their supports to make it viable.

Talents

Level and Talent Priority

(Character Level) > Burst >= Skill >>> Normal Attack

As none of Pyro Traveler’s team utility scales with their Talent levels and their damage is lackluster in most teams, players can get away with little to no investment into them.

For a more invested build, both their Burst and Skill should be equally levelled, with the Burst having an edge thanks to its high multiplier, making it a potential Vape/Melt nuke. Level 90 is the top priority when Pyro Traveler triggers Overloaded or Burgeon frequently.

Normal Attack is not recommended to be levelled, unless Pyro Traveler is played as an on-field damage dealer.

Talent Overview

Normal Attack
Normal Attack | Foreign Blaze

Normal Attack
Performs up to 5 rapid strikes.

Charged Attack
Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to unleash 2 rapid sword strikes.

Plunging Attack
Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

As a primarily off-field character, Pyro Traveler’s Normal, Charged and Plunging Attacks are rarely used. The exception is on-field Pyro Traveler, who will want this Talent to be leveled to maximize their damage output.

Elemental Skill
Elemental Skill | Flowfire Blade

Wields a searing flame that can incinerate the very earth. Has different effects when Tapped or Held.

(Press/Tap)
Call forth flames in a raging blaze. When used, the Traveler gains 42 Nightsoul point and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, summoning a Blazing Threshold that follows the current active character.
When the Blazing Threshold gets close to opponents, it will deal Nightsoul-aligned Pyro DMG to nearby opponents at intervals.

Hold
Unleash fire in a composed manner, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Pyro DMG to nearby opponents. When used, the Traveler gains 42 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, summoning a Scorching Threshold that follows the current active character.
When the current active character within a Scorching Threshold deals DMG to opponents, the Threshold will launch a Coordinated Attack that deals Nightsoul-aligned Pyro DMG based on the Traveler’s ATK. This effect can occur once every 3s.

Nightsoul’s Blessing: Traveler
Continuously consumes Nightsoul points. The Traveler’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state lasts 12s at maximum, and when their Nightsoul points are exhausted, this state will end. If this Elemental Skill is used again while active, the Traveler’s Nightsoul points will be reset to 42 points.
Blazing and Scorching Thresholds will disappear once the Traveler’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends, and only 1 Blazing or Scorching Threshold summoned by the Traveler themselves can exist at any one time.

Using Skill will make Pyro Traveler enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, giving them 42 Nightsoul points and activating one of two Skill effects. Tap Skill forms a ring that follows the active character and deals Nightsoul-aligned Pyro damage to nearby enemies every second; Hold Skill summons a sphere that deals coordinated attacks, inflicting Nightsoul-aligned Pyro damage to the enemy whenever a party member (including Pyro Traveler) deals damage to that target, with a 3s cooldown. Note that despite the in-game description, Pyro Traveler’s Hold Skill can still be triggered by off-field teammates.

Below is a table to quickly compare the two Skill versions. In summary, Tap Skill has slightly better AoE while Hold Skill is better for ranged units or to maximize Pyro Traveler’s Vape/Melt damage.

Pyro Traveler may have at most 80 Nightsoul points and they consume 7.5 points per second to maintain their Nightsoul’s Blessing state. They leave the Nightsoul’s Blessing state when all their Nightsoul points are used up, or when 12s have passed since the initial Skill cast. Nightsoul points that remain after the 12s duration will be transferred to the next Skill’s uptime.

Nightsoul points can also be gained from Bursting or triggering Pyro reactions (via C2) in addition to casting Skill.

Elemental Burst
Elemental Burst | Plains Scorcher

Condense the flames into a mark, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Pyro DMG to opponents up ahead. Within the next 4s, the Traveler restores 7 Nightsoul point per second.

Pyro Traveler’s Burst deals a single instance of AoE Nightsoul-aligned Pyro damage and restores a total of 28 Nightsoul points over 4s. Note that when Pyro Traveler is outside Nightsoul’s Blessing, they can still receive Nightsoul points that will apply to the next Nightsoul’s Blessing state, but those points will not be consumed and will not make them enter Nightsoul’s Blessing.

The Burst’s high multiplier allows for some Vape/Melt nuke potential with proper investment.

Ascension 1 Passive
Ascension 1 Passive | True Flame of Incineration

When the Traveler has over 20 Nightsoul points, the attack AoE of the Blazing and Scorching Thresholds from the Elemental Skill Flowfire Blade after they hit opponents is increased.

A straightforward increase in their Skill’s damage AoE when Pyro Traveler has more than 20 Nightsoul points.

Ascension 4 Passive
Ascension 4 Passive | Embers Unspent

After the current active character inside a Blazing Threshold or Scorching Threshold triggers a Pyro-related reaction, the Traveler will regain 5 Energy. This can occur once every 12s. Additionally, when a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, the Traveler will regain 4 Energy.

While the Elemental Skill is active, Pyro Traveler will regain 5 flat Energy whenever a Pyro-related reaction is triggered by anyone in the team, with a cooldown of 12s. Additionally, they also gain 4 flat Energy after a Nightsoul Burst is triggered. Keep it in mind that this requires at least one Natlan character in the team as Pyro Traveler does not count as one.

Constellations

Constellation 1
Constellation 1 | Starfire’s Flowing Light

While Blazing Threshold or Scorching Threshold are active, the current active character deals 6% increased DMG. If said character is in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, they will deal an additional 9% DMG.

This Constellation gives the active character a 6% DMG Bonus buff, or 15% DMG Bonus if they are in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state. While the buff is not large, it is the only part of Pyro Traveler’s kit that provides innate buffing without relying on Weapons or Artifacts.

Constellation 2
Constellation 2 | Ever-Lit Candle

Within 12s of using the Elemental Skill Flowfire Blade, after nearby party members trigger a Pyro-related reaction on an opponent, the Traveler will regain 14 Nightsoul points. Each use of Flowfire Blade will restore at most 28 Nightsoul points in this way.

Within 12s of using their Skill, Pyro Traveler gains 14 Nightsoul points whenever a Pyro-related reaction is triggered. Each Elemental Skill use will give at most 28 Nightsoul points this way. As its trigger condition is easy, this Constellation reliably provides extra Nightsoul points to Pyro Traveler, ensuring full Skill uptime every rotation.

Constellation 3
Constellation 3 | Relayed Beacon

Increases the Level of Flowfire Blade by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.

Simple Skill Talent level increase. Nothing remarkable.

Constellation 4
Constellation 4 | Ravaging Flame

After using the Elemental Burst Plains Scorcher, the Traveler gains 20% Pyro DMG Bonus for 9s.

Pyro Traveler obtains 20% Pyro DMG Bonus for 9s after using their Burst. A slight increase to their humble damage.

Constellation 5
Constellation 5 | The Fire Inextinguishable

Increases the Level of Plains Scorcher by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.

Simple Burst Talent level increase. Nothing notable, unless you’re building for a Vape/Melt nuke.

Constellation 6
Constellation 6 | The Sacred Flame Imperishable

While in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, the Traveler’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks will be converted to Nightsoul-aligned Pyro DMG that cannot be overridden, and the CRIT DMG of these attacks is increased by 40%.

While in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state caused by casting their Elemental Skill, Pyro Traveler gains a Pyro conversion that cannot be overridden and +40% CRIT DMG to their Normal, Charged and Plunging Attacks. These attacks also become Nightsoul-aligned damage, which is useful against certain enemies, such as Tenebrous Papilla.

This Constellation’s Pyro conversion increases their on-field viability  without relying on C6 Bennett’s Pyro infusion. The additional Pyro application from Normal and Charged Attacks can be useful for certain reaction setups as well.

Artifact Stats

Sands

Goblet

Circlet
ER / ATK% / EMPyro DMG Bonus / ATK% / EMCRIT / EM

Stat Priority (General): ER (until requirement) > CRIT Rate (Favonius) > CRIT > ATK%

Stat Priority (Vape/Melt): ER (until requirement) > CRIT > ATK% >= EM

Stat Priority (Burgeon/Overloaded): ER (until requirement) > EM

In most teams, you should prioritize getting a 4pc Scroll set with enough ER to Burst every rotation, as the set effect and Pyro Traveler’s off-field application are more important to their team than their damage.

EM gains value if Pyro Traveler can trigger frequent reactions, especially Overloaded and Burgeon. If using them as a deliberate Transformative Reaction trigger, EM becomes their top priority.

Artifact Sets

4pc Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City
General Best-in-Slot for Pyro Traveler due to its immense 40% DMG buff that they can easily trigger and maintain. Its 2pc effect also alleviatesPyro Traveler’s ER needs in team with Natlan characters.

4pc Tenacity of the Millelith
Viable alternative if 4pc Scroll is already used by another character. Pyro Traveler’s Skill allows them to keep this artifact set at full uptime.

4pc Noblesse Oblige
Another option for Pyro Traveler when another character holds Scroll. This set gives Pyro Traveler more personal damage compared to 4pc TotM, but TotM’s buff has better uptime and it is less likely to be held by another character already.

4pc Instructor
Instructor can provide a strong EM buff that may be more useful than the ATK% buffs from 4pc TotM or 4pc NO. Be aware that a 4-star set will limit PMC’s stats; use an off-set ER sands to meet ER requirements
Deepwood Memories
4pc Deepwood Memories
Deepwood’s buff is more important to Kinich and Emilie teams than Scroll, so Pyro Traveler should equip it if it is not already held by another teammate.

4pc Archaic Petra
Niche option in teams with a Geo unit where another character already holds Scroll, usually Xilonen. Pyro Traveler can pick up a Crystallize shard to provide a good additional DMG Bonus buff.
Obsidian Codex
4pc Obsidian Codex
Only recommended for on-field damage builds

4pc Marechaussee Hunter
A strictly worse on-field DPS set than 4pc Obsidian Codex but is not that much behind. Only usable with Furina in the team.

4pc Flower of Paradise Lost, 4pc Gilded Dreams
Artifact sets that increase Pyro Traveler’s Burgeon and Overloaded damage. 4pc Scroll can still be optimal for team damage if teammates contribute significant personal damage and there is no other holder.

Weapons

4★ Favonius Sword
Pyro Traveler’s best general-use weapon, providing them with a high ER secondary stat and a useful passive to help with meeting team ER requirements

4★ Sacrificial Sword
At R5, Sacrificial Sword allows for a shorter rotation (around 16s) with its Skill cooldown refresh. Pyro Traveler is still able to maintain their Skill uptime with just the Nightsoul points received from the Skill and remain from previous rotation where both Skill and Burst are used. This benefits characters with shorter rotation length such as Clorinde or Arlecchino.

It is not worth using this Sword before R5 or in a 18s+ rotation otherwise.

4★ Festering Desire
A limited event weapon that provides ER and Skill DMG Bonus/CRIT Rate buffs. Only worth using if Favonius’ passive is not needed for team energy.

4★ Fleuve Cendre Ferryman
Alternative to Festering Desire. It has less powerful damage buffs in exchange for a slight increase to ER for 5s after casting Skill.

4★ Xiphos’ Moonlight
This weapon increases Pyro Traveler’s reaction damage while also providing ER to the team.

4★ Iron Sting, 4★ Toukabou Shigure
Accessible EM options for an Overloaded / Burgeon build.

5★ Freedom-Sworn
Premium weapon choice for Pyro Traveler. The EM stat is good for their reaction damage while the teamwide buff benefits their team’s main damage dealers.

5★ CRIT Swords
Used to improve Pyro Traveler’s damage output and only recommended for a high-investment on-field build.

Off-Field Enabler

Pyro Traveler — DPS — Flex — Flex

Pyro Traveler is mainly used for their off-field Pyro application and their ability to activate the full DMG Bonus from 4pc Scroll as a freely available unit. However, their application is rather slow and thus cannot enable reactions for many demanding units such as Neuvillette or Wriothesley without help.

Pyro Traveler competes with Natlan 4-star units, who can also provide 4pc Scroll with their innate Nightsoul mechanics. What makes Pyro Traveler competitive is their modest but easy-to-maintain C1 DMG Bonus. However, they face stiffer competition when compared to 5-star Natlan supports like Xilonen and Citlali, who are generally leagues above them.

Notable Teammates

Electro On-Fielders
Electro units such as Varesa, Clorinde, Raiden, and Cyno can make good use of Pyro Traveler’s off-field Pyro application to maintain Chevreuse’s A1 RES Shred in Overloaded teams. They also benefit from 4pc Scroll and the DMG Bonus from Pyro Traveler’s C1.

Pyro Traveler’s slow Pyro application can also be utilized in Quickburn teams, an archetype where Burning and Quicken auras co-exist, allowing Electro characters to deal both Overloaded and Aggravate damage.

Mualani
Pyro Traveler can apply just enough Pyro for Mualani, so she can use them in her teams as a Vape enabler and buffer through 4pc Scroll and their C1. However, Pyro Traveler may struggle to apply Pyro in multi-target scenarios, thus limiting Mualani to single-target fights only.

Kinich
Kinich wants an off-field Pyro applier in his team for consistent Burning uptime, especially in multi-wave content. Pyro Traveler fulfills this role decently with their small buff from C1 and ability to use strong buffing artifacts such as 4pc Deepwood or Scroll.

Chasca
Chasca appreciates Pyro Traveler for their C1 buff, 4pc Scroll, and their Pyro element helping convert her bullets.

Emilie, Nahida, Baizhu

With Burning, these Dendro characters can assist Pyro Traveler in applying enough Pyro for demanding reaction DPS units such as Neuvillette, Wriothesley, or Ganyu. They also provide good value to the team through various benefits (e.g., personal damage, buffing, healing).

Mavuika
Pyro Traveler can help stack Fighting Spirit for Mavuika if no other Natlan supports are available. Their team options include Overloaded, Vape, or Overvape.

Generic Pyro / Hydro / Electro / Cryo Damage Dealers
With 4pc Scroll and 6% DMG Bonus from C1, Pyro Traveler is a decent placeholder support character for many teams that do not mind off-field Pyro application.

Example Teams

This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Pyro Traveler — Raiden — Sara — Chevreuse

Pyro Traveler uses 4pc Scroll and either ATK/DMG/CRIT build or Overloaded EM build

Sample Rotation
(Raiden E)1 > Chevreuse Q 3[hE]2 > Sara E C > Pyro Traveler tEQ N1 > Sara Q > Raiden Q combo

1First rotation only.
2If Chevreuse is not C4, do only 1 Hold Skill and fill the downtime with Normal Attacks.

Pyro Traveler — Varesa — Iansan — Chevreuse

If Iansan is already on 4pc Scroll, Pyro Traveler can use 4pc TotM or 4pc NO. Similarly to the team above, they can opt for either a Talent or reaction damage build.

Sample Rotation (Scroll Iansan)
(Varesa N1)1 > Chevreuse Q 3[hE]2 > Pyro Traveler tEQ > Iansan E C Q > Varesa 2[E CP E CP sQ] 2[CP] E CP

1First rotation only.
2If Chevreuse is not C4, do only 1 Hold Skill.

Pyro Traveler — Mualani — Xilonen — Sucrose

As Pyro Traveler cannot easily trigger  Vaporize against a single target with this team’s rotation, they usually use 4pc AP or 2pc Scroll + 2pc EoSF instead of 4pc Scroll.

Sample Rotation
Mualani N1 > Xilonen (Q)1 E N2 > Sucrose ED N2 > Pyro Traveler tEQ > Mualani E combo (Q)2

1Use when healing is needed.
2Burst whenever ready; wait for the Shark Missile to hit before restarting the rotation with her N1.

Pyro Traveler — Kinich — Emilie — Bennett

Pyro Traveler uses 4pc Deepwood to shred Dendro RES for the two main damage dealers of the team.

Sample Rotation
(Emilie E)1 > Pyro Traveler hEQ > Bennett EQ > (Emilie Q/E)2 > Kinich combo > (Bennett E)3

1First rotation only.
2Second rotation onwards.
3Do a Bennett Skill if you need the Energy.

Pyro Traveler — Wriothesley — Nahida — Bennett

Pyro Traveler’s short Pyro application uptime allows Wriothesley to apply Cryo aura at the end of his field time for 4pc Scroll setup on the next rotation. Nahida’s Dendro application complements Pyro Traveler’s slow Pyro for more consistent Melts.

Sample Rotation
(Wriothesley N1)1 > Nahida E Q > Pyro Traveler tEQ > Bennett EQ > Wriothesley E 5[N3CJ] N3C/Q2

1First rotation only.
2Use Wriothesley’s Burst if available; otherwise, do an additional N3C to establish Cryo aura.

Pyro Traveler — Neuvillette — Furina — Kazuha

Pyro Traveler is a F2P option who can provide 46% DMG Bonus through 4pc Scroll and their C1, and helps Neuvillette gain an A1 stack.

Sample Rotation
Neuvillette E > Furina N1 ED N1 > Kazuha E1PQ > Pyro Traveler hEQ > Furina Q > Neuvillette C E C Q > Kazuha tEP > Neuvillette 2[C]

1Use Hold Skill for better grouping and Tap Skill for faster rotation

Burgeon Trigger

Pyro Traveler — Dendro Applier — Hydro Applier — Flex

Pyro Traveler can be played as a Burgeon trigger in a team with consistent Dendro and Hydro application. With their Tap Skill, they can trigger Burgeon on nearby Dendro Cores every 1s, but they will only apply Pyro to the enemy target(s) every 3s due to ICD. This is a good thing as it limits Burning uptime while still frequently triggering Burgeon.

Pyro Traveler builds for their Burgeon damage by investing into Character Level (Lv. 90 is highly recommended) and EM stats. They usually use 4pc FoPL or 4pc GD for personal damage, but 4pc Scroll can be considered as a buffing set for their teammates.

Notable Teammates

Dendro

Dendro application is required for Burgeon. A second Dendro unit may be used for Dendro Resonance, which buffs EM, and for increased Dendro Core generation.

Nahida

Baizhu

Yaoyao

Alhaitham

Kaveh

Kinich

Emilie

Collei

Kirara

Hydro

Likewise, Hydro characters are mandatory for Dendro Core production. A Dendro character with strong application (Nahida, Alhaitham, etc.) may allow for 2 Hydro units for more Burgeons and damage.

Flex Options

Characters who can deal good personal damage or provide buffs or other team utility can be used in the flex slot.

Example Teams

This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Pyro Traveler — Nahida — Kokomi — Furina

A team where the Hydro units deal good damage and generate Dendro Cores for Pyro Traveler to trigger Burgeon. 4pc Scroll can be used to increase Kokomi and Furina’s damage.

Sample Rotation
Kokomi E > Nahida E (Q) > Pyro Traveler Q > Furina ED Q > Pyro Traveler tE > Kokomi Q combo

Pyro Traveler — Yaoyao — Xingqiu — Ororon

A more accessible team with only 4★ teammates. Pyro Traveler’s Nightsoul-aligned damage will proc Ororon’s A1 Passive, and Ororon will trigger some Hyperblooms and allow Pyro Traveler to trigger Overloaded for more damage. However, this is an Energy-hungry team, so multiple Favonius weapons are needed.

Sample Rotation
Yaoyao E N2 > Xingqiu Q N1 > Ororon EQ N3 > Pyro Traveler tE Q N2 > Xingqiu ED N3 > Yaoyao Q 6[N1J]

On-Field DPS

With their Pyro conversion at C6, Pyro Traveler can perform as the team’s on-fielder and deal respectable damage with good investment into them and their teammates. However, as Pyro Traveler’s statline is rather underwhelming compared to the other popular damage dealers, this playstyle is only recommendable to people who really want to build a team around Pyro Traveler staying on-field and dealing damage through their Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attacks.

Pyro Traveler’s best on-field playstyle is Vape / Melt teams where their damage is significantly enhanced by the Amplifying Reactions and strong buffers such as Furina and Citlali.

Notable Teammates

Bennett
Bennett is one of the best buffers with his massive Flat ATK buff. He also enables Pyro Resonance and fulfills the healer role for Pyro Traveler. At C6, Bennett also gives 15% Pyro DMG Bonus and Pyro infusion, letting Pyro Traveler to continue doing Pyro Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks even without their Skill active. This is most notable in Melt Plunge teams with Xianyun where the added application from Pyro Traveler’s Skill is unwanted.

Iansan
Iansan is another ATK buffer with the ability to carry 4pc Scroll for an additional buff. Unlike Bennett, her ATK buff can only be maintained by characters who have mobile playstyles or Nightsoul point consumption, the latter of which includes Pyro Traveler. To preserve Iansan’s highest ATK buff, Pyro Traveler can dash around between combos for more movement.

Furina
Furina applies Hydro to enable Vaporize for Pyro Traveler, and buffs all their hits with her stacking DMG Bonus buff. She requires a healer in the team to stack her Fanfare, preferably one that can also contribute buffs.

Yelan, Xingqiu
Other good off-field Hydro appliers for Pyro Traveler in their Vape teams. Yelan provides a ramping DMG Bonus buff while Xingqiu gives interruption resistance to make the on-field experience smoother.

Citlali
Citlali enables Melt with her off-field Cryo application and provides very good buffs through her A1 Passive, 4pc Scroll, and supportive weapons such as TTDS or Starcaller’s Watch. As a Natlanese, she also enables Nightsoul Burst, thus helping Pyro Traveler activate their A4 for more Energy regain.

Xilonen
Xilonen heals, provides RES Shred, and buffs with 4pc Scroll. Her RES Shred and the 4pc Scroll buff  are long-lasting and persist through multiple waves.

Kazuha, Sucrose
Anemo buffers who provide different degrees of grouping and RES Shred via 4pc Viridescent Venerer. Kazuha gives a large Elemental DMG% buff that scales with his EM, whereas Sucrose offers potent EM buffs to increase Pyro Traveler’s reaction damage.

Xianyun
Xianyun allows Pyro Traveler to jump and perform Plunging Attacks, dealing considerable damage. She also buffs those Plunging Attacks with her A4, heals the entire team, and carries 4pc VV for RES Shred.

Chevreuse
Chevreuse provides potent buffs to Pyro and Electro characters, with the caveat that the team cannot include any other elements. Off-field Electro units such as Fischl, Yae, and Ororon are preferred for on-field Pyro Traveler.

Example Teams

This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Pyro Traveler — Bennett — Furina — Xianyun

Buffed by Xianyun, Bennett, and Furina, Pyro Traveler can deal Plunging Attacks that can Vaporize for impressive damage. C6 Bennett allows Pyro Traveler to skip their Burst and forego building ER as more Skill uptime is not needed.

Sample Rotation
Furina ED Q > Bennett EQ N11 > Xianyun EPQ > Pyro Traveler hE (Q) 8[JP] > (Bennett E N2)

1To make Pyro Swirl more reliable; skip it if Bennett is not C6

Pyro Traveler — Xilonen — Furina — Yelan

Another Vape team with good off-field Hydro damage from Furina and Yelan and decent on-field damage from Pyro Traveler.

Sample Rotation
Furina ED > Xilonen EQ N2 > Furina Q > Yelan EQ N1 > Pyro Traveler hE N1 Q 3[N2CD] > Yelan E N2 > Pyro Traveler 2[N2CD]

Pyro Traveler — Chevreuse — Bennett — Fischl

Pyro Traveler can dish out decent damage in Chevreuse Overloaded teams.

Sample Rotation
Bennett EQ > Fischl N1 E/Q > Chevreuse Q hE > Pyro Traveler tE Q 3[N3D] > Bennett E > Pyro Traveler 3[N3D]
