- Lack of supportive utility aside from her Geo Element, situational A4 Passive, and any supportive weapon passive
Playstyles
On-Field and Quickswap DPS
Ningguang is an on-field damage dealer with flexible field time, which allows you to switch characters whenever necessary to accommodate other party members. She casts her Elemental Skill and Burst when they’re available, then fills any gaps in rotations with her Normal and Charged Attacks.
It’s worth noting that her personal damage is lower than other popular damage dealers but still sufficient when played properly.
Support
Ningguang does not have much supporting capability in her base kit. Her A4 Passive gives a Geo DMG Bonus to characters that dash through her Jade Screen, and she generates 3.33 Geo Particles per Skill cast — note, for C2, that this particle generation has a 6s cooldown. Being Geo allows her to hold 4pc Archaic Petra, and being a Catalyst user allows her to use weapons such as TTDS and Starcaller’s Watch to further buff teammates. Generally, this playstyle is only viable when paired with Navia.
Talents
Talent Priority
Burst > Normal Attack ≥ Skill
All of Ningguang’s Combat Talents contribute meaningfully to her damage output, so it’s worthwhile to level up all three. Before C6 or in quickswap teams, prioritize Ningguang’s Elemental Burst over her Normal Attack Talent. At C6, prioritize her Elemental Burst and Normal Attack Talents equally. Her Elemental Skill, while the weakest part of her kit, can do meaningful damage in multi-target scenarios.
Talent Overview
Normal Attack | Sparkling Scatter
Talent Description
Normal Attack
Shoots gems that deal Geo DMG.
Upon hit, this grants Ningguang 1 Star Jade.
Charged Attack
Consumes a certain amount of stamina to fire off a giant gem that deals Geo DMG.
If Ningguang has any Star Jades, unleashing a Charged Attack will cause the Star Jades to be fired at the enemy as well, dealing additional DMG.
Plunging Attack
Gathering the might of Geo, Ningguang plunges towards the ground from mid-air, damaging all opponents in her path. Deals AoE Geo DMG upon impact with the ground.
Ningguang’s Normal Attacks are weak by themselves, but her Charged Attacks, paired with the Star Jades she accumulates, deal sizable damage. All of these are effectively single-target.
Ningguang’s Normal Attack animation cancels are crucial but simple to execute: walk continuously in any direction while Normal Attacking, and stop walking while Charged Attacking.
Elemental Skill | Jade Screen
Talent Description
Ningguang creates a Jade Screen out of gold, obsidian and her great opulence, dealing AoE Geo DMG.
Jade Screen
- Blocks opponents’ projectiles.
- Endurance scales based on Ningguang’s Max HP.
Jade Screen is considered a Geo Construct and can be used to block certain attacks, but cannot be climbed. Only one Jade Screen may exist at any one time.
Ningguang’s Elemental Skill is her primary source of AoE damage, and her C2 enables her to cast it twice per rotation. The screen is created a fixed distance ahead of Ningguang and can block some ranged attacks.
This ability is one of her key contributors in a supportive role. It generates 3.33 Geo Particles when hitting an enemy and provides a Geo DMG Bonus to characters that dash through it. Her particle generation has a 6s cooldown, so casting two Elemental Skills in a row (with C2 or Sacrificial Fragments) would only generate one set of particles.
The Jade Screen will immediately shatter if obstructed when cast, which often happens against large bosses. There are methods that allow the Jade Screen to hit a large boss and generate Geo Particles without shattering. For more information on these methods, read the Talents section in the Ningguang Extended Guide.
Elemental Burst | Starshatter
Talent Description
Gathering a great number of gems, Ningguang scatters them all at once, sending homing projectiles at her opponents that deal massive Geo DMG.
If Starshatter is cast when a Jade Screen is nearby, the Jade Screen will fire additional gem projectiles at the same time.
Having a Jade Screen nearby to fire additional gems increases Ningguang’s total Elemental Burst damage considerably. The gem projectiles each deal single-target damage, but they often hit different targets in multi-target scenarios.
Ascension 1 Passive | Backup Plan
Talent Description
When Ningguang is in possession of Star Jades, her Charged Attack does not consume Stamina.
This passive makes Ningguang noticeably more comfortable to play.
Ascension 4 Passive | Strategic Reserve
Talent Description
A character that passes through the Jade Screen will gain a 12% Geo DMG Bonus for 10s
Where possible, Ningguang should make use of this passive by dashing through her Jade Screen before casting her Elemental Burst.
Constellations
Constellation 1 | Piercing Fragments
When a Normal Attack hits, it deals AoE DMG.
A nonessential Constellation, as Ningguang’s Normal Attacks contribute very little to her damage output.
Constellation 2 | Shock Effect
When Jade Screen is shattered, its CD will reset. Can occur once every 6s.
Allows Ningguang to cast two Elemental Skills per rotation. This increases her damage output, significantly lowers her Energy Recharge requirements in longer rotations, and provides a second opportunity to cast her Elemental Skill if the first screen shatters unexpectedly. Do note that her particle generation has a 6s cooldown, so casting two Elemental Skills in a row would only generate one set of particles.
Constellation 3 | Majesty Be the Array of Stars
Increases the Level of Starshatter by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.
Ningguang’s Elemental Burst is a large portion of her damage, making this Constellation rather strong.
Constellation 4 | Exquisite be the Jade, Outshining All Beneath
Jade Screen increases nearby characters’ Elemental RES by 10%.
An insignificant boost to survivability for the on-field character.
Constellation 5 | Invincible Be the Jade Screen
Increases the Level of Jade Screen by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.
A decent Constellation as Ningguang’s Elemental Skill is a good portion of her damage, especially in multi-target scenarios.
Constellation 6 | Grandeur Be the Seven Stars
When Starshatter is used, Ningguang gains 7 Star Jades.
Provides Ningguang with 7 Star Jades after casting her Elemental Burst. This Constellation improves the damage contribution of Ningguang’s Normal Attack Talent and is a significant damage increase.
Combos
- N = Normal Attack
- C = Charged Attack
- W = walk cancel
Ningguang is often flexible in her rotations to allow any mix of attack combos.
N2C (N1W N1C) | Ningguang’s best combo in most scenarios. This combo is the Tianquan Ningguang’s bread🍞 and butter🧈that nourishes the hungry mouths of the Liyue Qixing. |
N1C | Ningguang’s best combo at melee range and for shorter rotations. |
Artifacts
ER Requirements
Note: In the table below, “Skill” refers to Elemental Skill casts that generate Energy particles. Casting Ningguang’s Elemental Skill twice within 6s will only generate one set of particles.
Favonius procs reduce Ningguang’s ER requirements by 10–20%.
Burst every 12s, 1 Skill, 2–3 other Geo units | 110–130% |
Burst every 15s, 1 Skill, 1 other Geo unit | 120–140% |
Burst every 15s, 1 Skill, 2 other Geo units | 110–120% |
Burst every 20s, 2 Skills, 1 other Geo unit | 100–110% |
Use the Energy Recharge Calculator to determine exact requirements for your team and rotation. For more details on how Favonius weapons will affect your team, please use Ac1d’s Favonius Mastersheet.
Artifact Stats
![]() Sands | ![]() Goblet | ![]() Circlet |
ATK% | Geo DMG Bonus | CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG |
Substats: ER (until requirement) > CRIT > ATK%
If used in a supportive role, Ningguang would still build offensive stats as other stats would not improve her team’s damage nor their survivability by much.
We recommend using Genshin Optimizer to compare your actual artifacts.
Artifact Sets
Calcs for artifact set comparisons can be found here (last updated for Version 4.3).
![]() 4pc Nighttime Whispers in the Echoing Woods | 4pc Nighttime Whispers in the Echoing Woods (Whispers) is Ningguang’s strongest option while shielded. She can easily maintain its passive through Crystallize shards, and even with reduced uptime, it’s still her best set. |
![]() 4pc Marechaussee Hunter | 4pc Marechaussee Hunter is a strong option when paired with Furina. Its 4pc effect does not stack while off-field, meaning Ningguang’s Elemental Skill cast would often have 0–1 stacks. |
![]() 4pc Unfinished Reverie / 4pc Thundersoother / 4pc Lavawalker | 4pc Unfinished Reverie is stronger than 4pc Thundersoother and 4pc Lavawalker. These artifact sets are good if you can consistently maintain a respective Burning, Electro, or Pyro aura on enemies. |
![]() 4pc Emblem of Severed Fate | 4pc Emblem of Severed Fate is good in quickswap teams if Ningguang needs the Energy to meet her ER requirements. |
![]() 2pc Geo DMG Bonus + 2pc ATK% | This 2pc combination is decent across most team compositions and scenarios. 4pc Husk of Opulent Dreams performs similarly when Ningguang is paired with Bennett. |
![]() Other 2pc Mixed Sets | 2pc Set Bonuses: Geo DMG Bonus, ATK%, Burst DMG Bonus, Energy Recharge, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City The 2pc sets with the best substats generally deal the most damage. However, 2pc Noblesse is less desirable outside of quickswap teams, and artifact sets that provide Energy are less desirable when Ningguang’s ER requirements are met. |
![]() 4pc Archaic Petra | 4pc Archaic Petra can be Ningguang’s best artifact set in some teams, as she can usually pick up Crystallize shards effortlessly while on-field. |
Weapons
Calcs for weapon comparisons can be found here and here (last updated for Version 4.1).
![]() 5★ Cashflow Supervision, Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, Kagura’s Verity | Ningguang’s most consistent 5-star options. These weapons offer a high Base ATK to make up for Ningguang’s low Base ATK, as well as solid CRIT stats. When paired with Furina, Cashflow Supervision is Ningguang’s best weapon. Lost Prayer’s passive is inconsistent in a team where Ningguang has short field time. Kagura’s Verity performs well if Ningguang casts her Elemental Skill multiple times. |
![]() 5★ Tome of the Eternal Flow | A good 5-star option when Ningguang is paired with Furina but outclassed by Cashflow Supervision. Due to its low Base ATK, it can perform worse than other options when you don’t have access to enough ATK stats. |
![]() 5★ Memory of Dust, Skyward Atlas | Solid 5-star options that can outperform other weapons in teams that lack ATK buffs. Memory of Dust’s relative strength is conditional on high shield uptime. |
![]() 5★ Surf’s Up, Tulaytullah’s Remembrance | Decent 5-star options purely because of their stats. Their passives have relatively little impact on Ningguang’s total damage output due to her poor Normal Attack scalings. |
![]() 4★ Solar Pearl | The most consistent 4-star option. To utilize its passive, Normal Attack once before casting Ningguang’s other skills. |
![]() 4★ The Widsith | A strong 4-star option, but its randomized buffs can lead to inconsistent damage. |
![]() 4★ Flowing Purity | A good 4-star option if the Bond of Life can be cleared. Bennett will not heal the active character to clear the Bond of Life if their HP is above 70%. Pairing Bennett with Furina or using Xilonen would help trigger the passive consistently. |
![]() 4★ Eye of Perception | A good 4-star option in multi-target scenarios. |
![]() 4★ Oathsworn Eye | A good free-to-play option, but its passive makes it less desirable in teams where Ningguang has a lower ER requirement. |
![]() 4★ Dodoco Tales | A fine 4-star option in teams where Ningguang receives more field time. To utilize its passive, execute one Charged Attack combo (e.g., N2C) before casting her other skills. |

Teambuilding
Geo Resonance: Enduring Rock | Increases shield strength by 15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield will have the following special characteristics: DMG dealt increased by 15%, dealing DMG to enemies will decrease their Geo RES by 20% for 15s. |
- Ningguang’s damage benefits significantly from Geo Resonance, which requires having at least two Geo characters in the party. As the damage buffs from Geo Resonance are conditional on shield uptime, this also forces her to make use of either a shielder or the Crystallize reaction.
- Ningguang is relatively flexible with team compositions and can adapt her field time to accommodate many different buffers and off-field damage dealers. The longer her field time, the more her Normal Attack Talent would contribute to her damage.
Notable Teammates
Geo
Geo units enable Geo Resonance and often reduce Ningguang’s Energy requirements.
![]() Xilonen | Xilonen is one of the best partners for Ningguang as she shreds Geo RES, provides a Geo DMG Bonus via 4pc Scroll, and can funnel Geo Particles. Ningguang is often paired with teammates that also contribute their personal damage, and Xilonen is likely to buff them as well. |
![]() ![]() Chiori, Albedo | Chiori and Albedo offer consistent Energy generation and good personal damage, with low field time requirements. Chiori’s damage is higher than Albedo’s since Ningguang’s construct allows her to summon a second Tamoto doll. Albedo, on the other hand, has a longer-lasting Elemental Skill and fits easier on shorter rotations with Ningguang. |
![]() Kachina | Kachina has lower damage than Chiori and Albedo, but she makes up for it by being able to hold 4pc Scroll. Her long 20s Elemental Skill cooldown limits her viability with Ningguang in some teams; however, at C2+, she can bypass this cooldown at the expense of lower Geo Particle generation. |
![]() Zhongli | Zhongli provides immense survivability through his shield, which also applies 20% Universal RES Shred to nearby enemies and guarantees uptime on the damage buffs from Geo Resonance. Zhongli’s Stone Steles can also resonate with a nearby Jade Screen to deal some additional damage; however, carelessly positioned steles can obstruct Ningguang’s projectiles and Jade Screen creation. |
![]() Gorou (C6) | At C6, Gorou offers excellent damage buffs to Ningguang and is especially potent when paired with Chiori or Albedo, who benefit from his DEF buffs. At lower Constellations, Gorou is not worthwhile for Ningguang teams. |
![]() ![]() Navia, Noelle | Navia and Noelle are both on-field Geo damage dealers with flexible field times that can fit Ningguang into their compositions. Ningguang can provide them with Geo Particles (especially at C2+) and can hold TTDS or deal solid damage. Although not reliable, her Jade Screen can also provide them with a Geo DMG Bonus. |
![]() Geo Traveler | Geo Traveler is not recommended with Ningguang. Their constructs often obstruct Ningguang’s projectiles and her Jade Screen placement, leading to inconsistent performance. |
Pyro
![]() Bennett | Bennett provides healing and immense ATK buffs from his Burst and 4pc Noblesse, which compensate for Ningguang’s glaringly low Base ATK. However, when played as the only Pyro character on a team, he requires either more field time or more Energy Recharge to fulfill his Energy needs. |
![]() Xiangling | Xiangling offers great AoE damage to compensate for Ningguang’s largely single-target damage. However, she has extremely high Energy needs that are only partially alleviated by pairing her with Bennett. |
![]() Mavuika | Mavuika is a strong AoE damage dealer that needs a Natlan character, like Xilonen, to charge her Elemental Burst. Performing Mavuika’s Charged Attack combo is likely to lead to better results than swapping to Ningguang to perform her own combos. |
![]() Emilie | While Emilie is not a Pyro unit, she can still maintain a Pyro aura when paired with Bennett if he refreshes Pyro mid-rotation. She deals great single-target damage and can fit into short rotations with Ningguang. |
Hydro
![]() Furina | Furina is a strong buffer and single-target damage dealer with the drawback of needing a healer to stack her DMG% buff. Ningguang is generally run with Bennett or Xilonen, making this condition a non-issue. |
![]() Yelan | Yelan provides good single-target off-field damage and a ramping DMG% buff. She pairs really well in a Double Hydro core with Furina or Xingqiu, reducing the reliance on Ningguang’s personal damage. She also fits into 18s rotations but she often wants to cast 2 Elemental Skills, increasing her rotations to 21s+. |
![]() Xingqiu | Xingqiu offers good single-target damage and some damage reduction that can help Ningguang’s survivability in teams relying on Crystallize shards. |
Electro
![]() Fischl | Fischl offers consistent particle generation and sizable single-target damage from off-field. Ningguang can consistently trigger Fischl’s A4 Passive to deal additional damage, and her flexible field time allows Fischl to maintain good Oz uptime. |
![]() Yae Miko | Yae offers good single-target damage through her Elemental Skill and Burst. She has high Energy needs and field time requirements, but Ningguang’s synergy with Fischl and flexible field time help alleviate these. |
![]() Beidou | Beidou provides solid damage when facing 2 enemies, compensating for Ningguang’s lower damage in multi-target scenarios. Her high Energy requirements often force her to be paired with Fischl, limiting her flexibility in team comps. |
![]() Kujou Sara | Sara offers a Flat ATK buff on a shorter cooldown than Bennett, which synergizes with Ningguang in teams with 12s rotations |
Cryo
12s Rotation Teams
These teams execute 12s rotations. They place the most emphasis on Ningguang’s personal damage, so they benefit significantly from her Constellations.
This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Fischl’s cooldowns allow Ningguang to perform two consecutive 12–13s rotations, making a 25s rotation. While Furina does not typically fit into 12s rotations, she can cast her abilities every other rotation as her Elemental Skill has a 30s duration. Sara buffs Ningguang with her Elemental Skill and buffs Fischl every other rotation with her Elemental Burst. Xilonen provides RES Shred and DMG% buffs to all party members while helping Ningguang charge her Elemental Burst. Simply casting characters’ abilities when they’re available is also a viable strategy
Sample Rotation (Furina)
Xilonen Q > Furina ED Q > Fischl E > Xilonen E N2 > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C N2C > Fischl Q > Xilonen E N2 > Ningguang N1 ED N2C Q N1C
Sample Rotation (Kujou Sara)
Sara Q > Fischl E > Xilonen E N2 > Sara E C > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C > Fischl Q > Xilonen E N2 > Ningguang N1C > Sara E C > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C N1C

This team does not have a set rotation. Cast Albedo and Zhongli’s Elemental Skills at the start of the first rotation. For subsequent rotations, only swap to them to use their Elemental Skills if they have expired. Zhongli can be occasionally swapped to if an extra Favonius proc is needed. Sara uses her abilities when they’re available, while Fischl resets Oz when he expires.
15s Rotation Teams
These teams execute 15–16s rotations. Bennett is not functionally necessary in these teams, but he provides very valuable utility and is highly recommended.
This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Fischl, Yae, and Chiori deal solid off-field single-target damage. Xilonen provides RES Shred and a DMG% buff to both Geo and Electro. When paired with Chiori, Hakushin Ring can become a competitive option on Ningguang for team DPS as it improves all party members’ damage. Fischl benefits from Hakushin Ring’s buff starting from the second rotation. Do note that with Chiori, the team has no healing and is relying on Crystallize shards for defensive utility.
Sample Rotation (Xilonen)
Yae 3[E] > Xilonen E N2 > Fischl E/Q > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C N2C > (Yae Q)1
1Use if available. If not, do an additional N2C on Ningguang.
Sample Rotation (Chiori)
Yae 3[E] > Fischl E/Q > Chiori 2[E] > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C 2[N2C] > (Chiori / Yae Q)1
1Use Elemental Bursts if available. If not, do an additional N2C on Ningguang.

Although Kachina’s Elemental Skill has a 20s cooldown, her C2 can allow her to do a 15s rotation instead. However, this will lead to lower Geo Particle generation on every other rotation, which can increase the teams’ Energy requirements. Bennett provides a Flat ATK buff to both Fischl and Ningguang, and Kachina holds 4pc Scroll to provide Electro and Geo DMG Bonus to the team.
Sample Rotation
Kachina E/Q > Bennett EQ > Fischl E/Q > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C > Bennett E > Ningguang N2C
18s Rotation Teams
These teams execute 18s rotations and are Ningguang’s most accessible and versatile compositions. Notably at C2, Ningguang can start casting 2 Elemental Skills per rotation. Bennett is not functionally necessary in these teams, but he provides very valuable utility and is highly recommended.
This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

While both Emilie and Chiori can fit into shorter rotations, their Elemental Skill durations allow them to fit into 18s rotations more comfortably. Both do significant single-target damage alongside Ningguang. Bennett casts another Elemental Skill during Ningguang’s field time to generate Pyro Particles, refresh Burning, and proc 4pc Deepwood Memories if he’s holding it.
Sample Rotation
(Bennett EQ > Emilie Q/E)1 > Chiori 2[E] > Ningguang N1 ED C Q C > Bennett E > Ningguang N1 ED N1C > (Chiori Q)2
1In the first rotation, do (Emilie E > Bennett EQ) instead.
2Use if available. If not, do an additional N2C on Ningguang.

Mavuika is a strong DPS with very good AoE, which helps alleviate Ningguang’s weakness in multi-target scenarios. Xilonen helps charge up Mavuika’s Burst every rotation. Ningguang can fill a supportive role and equip 4pc Archaic Petra with TTDS. The rotation can either stay at 18s or extend to 20s to get full TTDS uptime. Alternatively, Ningguang can be built offensively; however, it is not advised to cut Mavuika’s field time in favor of longer Ningguang field time.
Sample Rotation
Mavuika E > Xilonen E N2 > Bennett EQ > Ningguang ED N1 Q C > Mavuika Q combo

While Ningguang does not benefit from Gorou’s DEF buffs, she still appreciates his Geo DMG Bonus and the CRIT DMG buff at C6. Chiori makes use of all of Gorou’s buffs. Zhongli provides some RES Shred and helps maintain Geo Resonance. In this team, he would only hold 4pc Tenacity of the Millelith, making his pillar positioning even trickier than usual.
Sample Rotation
Zhongli hED > Gorou E(Q) > Chiori 2[E] > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C > (Chiori Q)1 > Ningguang ED 2[N2C]
1Use if available.
20s+ Rotation Teams
These teams execute longer rotations to accommodate party members with longer cooldowns. Ningguang’s teammates tend to deal significant damage in these compositions, which makes her supportive roles more viable.
This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Furina provides a significant DMG% buff to the team, Yelan provides a ramping DMG% buff to Ningguang and Xilonen provides RES Shred and a DMG% buff via 4pc Scroll. Due to an oversaturation of DMG% buffs with a lack of ATK buffs, Ningguang might prefer an ATK% Goblet. 4pc Archaic Petra is viable as Ningguang can keep a high uptime on its effect, and both Yelan and Furina contribute a good portion of the team’s damage.
Sample Rotation
Xilonen Q > Furina ED Q > Xilonen E N2 > Yelan Q N1 E N1 > Ningguang N1 ED N1C N1 Q N1C N1 E > Xilonen E N2 > Yelan N1 E N1 > Ningguang N1C N1

A Double Hydro team without Furina. Xingqiu’s damage reduction helps the team’s survivability as it only relies on Crystallize shards for defensive utility. The team is incentivized to weave in a lot of Normal Attacks to trigger both Yelan and Xingqiu’s Elemental Bursts.
Sample Rotation
Xingqiu EDQ (E) > Yelan Q N1 E N1 > Chiori 2[E] > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q N1C N2C > Yelan N1 E N1 > Ningguang 2[N2C]

Ningguang takes a backseat in teams with Navia to fill a more supportive role. She provides some damage, Geo application for Crystallize, and Geo Particles. Ningguang can use her usual damage builds or use TTDS to further buff Navia.
Sample Rotation (Furina)
Furina ED Q > Navia Q > Bennett Q E > Ningguang ED > Navia E combo > Ningguang Q C E > Navia hE N3 > Bennett E
Sample Rotation (Xiangling)
Navia Q > Bennett Q E > Xiangling Q E > Ningguang ED > Navia E N3 > Ningguang Q C E > Navia hE N3 > Bennett E > Xiangling N2

A Hyperbloom team where Ningguang does not provide anything to the team. Since Geo cannot react with Dendro, she is not hindering the team’s performance much either.
Sample Rotation
Raiden E > Nahida E > Xingqiu EDQ (E) > Ningguang N1 ED N1C Q C > Nahida N2C > Ningguang ED combo
