Character Overview

Pros

  • Her buff encourages movement rather than restricting it
  • As a Natlan unit, she can activate 4pc Scroll’s full 40% DMG Bonus
  • Provides further buffs with Constellations, with her C2 giving ATK% and her C6 giving DMG%
  • Fast animations and low field time requirements

Cons

  • Her higher ATK buff requires the active character to move significantly, which limits her synergies
  • Low personal damage
  • Her lackluster healing can struggle to keep the team alive as solo sustain, or to stack Fanfare in teams with Furina
  • Will force you to run 20 laps around the Stadium of the Sacred Flame

Playstyles

Support

Iansan provides a Flat ATK buff with her Burst that scales with the on-field character’s movement, and can hold 4pc Scroll to increase her team’s damage. She pairs best with highly mobile DPS units, including many Natlan characters and Plunge characters.

Talents

Level and Talent Priority

Burst > Character Level

Leveling Iansan’s Elemental Burst should be prioritized as it increases her ATK buff’s cap. Leveling her to 90 also increases her ATK, albeit not by a large amount. With limited resources, it is better for team damage to level your DPS to 90 instead.
Since Iansan’s damage is negligible, there is no need to level her Elemental Skill or Normal Attack.

Talent Overview

Normal Attack
Normal Attack | Weighted Spike

Normal Attack
Performs up to 3 consecutive spear strikes.

Charged Attack
Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to opponents along the way.

Plunging Attack
Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Nightsoul State: Swift Stormflight
While in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state: Iansan’s Charged Attack will be transformed into the formidable Swift Stormflight, consuming a certain amount of Stamina to stomp fiercely down, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG.

A standard string of 3 Normal Attacks.

While Iansan is in Nightsoul’s Blessing, her Charged Attack is transformed into a Swift Stormflight, which consumes stamina to deal AoE Electro Damage and activates her A1 Passive.

Elemental Skill
Elemental Skill | Thunderbolt Rush

Iansan charges forward a certain distance, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Electro DMG to all opponents in her path. After this Skill is used, Iansan will regain 54 Nightsoul points and enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state. Within 5s after this is done, using a Normal Attack will trigger 1 quick Swift Stormflight stomp from Iansan that will not consume Stamina.

Nightsoul’s Blessing: Iansan
Continuously consumes Nightsoul points. If she runs out, or uses this Skill again, her Nightsoul’s Blessing state will end. It has the following properties:

  • Increases Iansan’s Movement SPD.
  • Holding sprint will switch Iansan to Thunderbolt Rush mode, greatly increasing her Movement SPD temporarily. In this mode, Iansan can make flying leaps using terrain, or consume additional Nightsoul points to move on water or liquid Phlogiston while being immune to DMG from the latter.

Iansan enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, gains 54 Nightsoul points, and deals a single instance of Nightsoul-aligned Electro Damage. Additionally, within 5s of using Iansan’s Skill, executing a Normal Attack will trigger a Swift Stormflight without consuming stamina.

While in her Nightsoul’s Blessing state, Iansan has increased Movement SPD and will continuously consume Nightsoul points. Holding sprint further increases her movement SPD.

Elemental Burst
Elemental Burst | The Three Principles of Power

Iansan’s stomping foot shatters the very earth with “Power,” dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG. She then whips out her “Limited-Edition Kinetic Energy Scale (For Workouts).”
When this Skill is used, Iansan will gain 15 Nightsoul points and enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state.
When the Kinetic Energy Scale leaves the field, Iansan’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state will end.

Kinetic Energy Scale
The Kinetic Energy Scale will follow the character around, boosting the ATK of your current active party member in different ways based on Iansan’s Nightsoul points.

  • If Iansan has less than 42 Nightsoul points, the ATK bonus will be based on her Nightsoul points and ATK.
  • If Iansan has at least 42 Nightsoul points, the Kinetic Energy Scale will switch to the “Ardent Support!” state, in which the ATK bonus will be stronger and based on her ATK alone.

Additionally, the Scale will log the distance your current active character (excluding Iansan) has moved so long as it is active, restoring Nightsoul points to Iansan every second based on the distance moved in the previous second.
The Scale will disappear once her Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends. It will also disappear after 1 second when you are not in a state of combat. While it is active, Iansan’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state will not end even if she is not on the field.

Upon casting her Elemental Burst, Iansan deals AoE Electro DMG, gains 15 Nightsoul points, and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state. She also summons her Kinetic Energy Scale. While the Kinetic Energy Scale is active, Iansan’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state will not end even if she is not on the field — it will only end once its 12s duration expires. The Kinetic Energy Scale will follow the active character and buff their ATK based on Iansan’s Nightsoul points and ATK stat. The Kinetic Energy Scale will also track the movement of the active character and restore Nightsoul points for Iansan based on the distance moved.

Iansan’s ATK buff is considered Flat ATK, similarly to Bennett’s Elemental Burst, and its scaling changes depending on her Nightsoul points. When her Nightsoul points are at 42 or higher, Iansan will buff the active character’s ATK based on 27% of her total ATK stat. When Iansan’s Nightsoul points are below 42, her buff will be weaker and based on a combination of her current Nightsoul points and 0.5% of her ATK stat (e.g., if she has 20 NS points, her ATK buff is calculated as 20 x 0.5% of her ATK).

It should be noted that Iansan will lose all her Nightsoul points if she leaves the field without using her Elemental Burst (e.g., if Iansan uses her Elemental Skill and then swaps out, she will lose the Nightsoul points generated by her Skill). In rotations where she needs to split her uptime to set up reactions (e.g., teams with Chevreuse and Clorinde) she should therefore use her Burst first so as not to lose the 54 Nightsoul points from her Skill.

Ascension 1 Passive
Ascension 1 Passive | Enhanced Resistance Training

After Swift Stormflight hits opponents, Iansan will gain the Precise Movement effect for 15s.
During this time, her ATK is increased by 20%, and whenever she regains Nightsoul points through the Kinetic Energy Scale in her Elemental Burst, The Three Principles of Power, she will gain 1 extra Nightsoul point. Additionally, when your current active party member consumes or restores Nightsoul points, the extra Nightsoul points Iansan gains the next time she restores Nightsoul points via the Scale will be increased to 4. This effect can occur once every 2.8s.
“Precise Movement” will expire when Iansan’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends.

After Iansan uses Swift Stormflight, she gains a 20% ATK buff and improves her Nightsoul point generation from the active character’s movement. When the active character causes Iansan to restore Nightsoul points through the Kinetic Energy Scale, Iansan regains 1 extra Nightsoul point. When the active character consumes or restores Nightsoul points, the extra Nightsoul point Iansan regains will be increased to 4, with a 2.8s cooldown.

Ascension 4 Passive
Ascension 4 Passive | Kinetic Energy Gradient Test

When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Iansan will obtain the Warming Up effect for 10s.
During this time, when Iansan restores at least 1 Nightsoul point, she will heal your current active character for 60% of her ATK. This effect can be triggered once every 2.8s.

Provides continuous minor healing to the active character after a Nightsoul Burst is triggered, based on Iansan’s ATK stat. Note that this amount of healing is not sufficient to offset Furina’s HP drain or stack a decent amount of Fanfare over multiple rotations.

Constellations

Constellation 1
Constellation 1 | Starting’s Never Easy

When Iansan is in combat and is in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, she will restore 15 Elemental Energy for every 6 Nightsoul points she consumes. This effect can trigger once every 18s.

A simple yet valuable Energy restoration. Its 18s cooldown means that Iansan will only activate it once every rotation.

Constellation 2
Constellation 2 | Laziness is the Enemy!

When using the Elemental Burst The Three Principles of Power, Iansan will also gain the Precise Movement effect from her Passive Talent “Enhanced Resistance Training” for 15s. Additionally, if Iansan is off-field while Precise Movement is active, she will also increase your current active character’s ATK by 30%. You must first unlock the Passive Talent “Enhanced Resistance Training” to access the above effect.

After using Her Elemental Burst, Iansan will gain her A1 buff, giving her the option to skip her enhanced Charged Attack; this is recommended to save time in teams where the additional Electro application from her enhanced Charged Attack is not needed.

The additional effect is a direct buff to ATK-scaling on-field characters, with a trigger condition that’s easy to meet: when Iansan is off-field and her A1 Passive is active, she will additionally buff the on-field character’s ATK by 30%.

Constellation 3
Constellation 3 | Scientific Diet Planning

Increases the Level of Thunderbolt Rush by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.

Although Iansan’s Elemental Skill is a decent part of her personal damage, her low team damage share makes this Constellation insignificant.

Constellation 4
Constellation 4 | Slow and Steady Wins the Race

When the Kinetic Energy Scale is present, Iansan will gain 2 stacks of Surging Force after your current active character (excluding herself) uses their Elemental Burst. This lasts until the Scale leaves the field, and Surging Force can be gained once per Scale summoning. Whenever Iansan restores Nightsoul points via the Scale, she will consume 1 Surging Force stack and restore 4 additional Nightsoul points.
Additionally, if her Nightsoul restoration from the Scale overflows, Iansan will gain 50% of the overflow the next time she restores Nightsoul points via the Scale.

When Iansan’s Kinetic Energy Scale is present and a teammate uses their Burst, she gains 8 extra Nightsoul points the next time her Scale restores Nightsoul points for her. This can happen once per Scale summoning. Additionally, when Iansan’s Nightsoul points overflow, she will restore 50% of the overflow the next time she restores Nightsoul points, reducing waste.

Constellation 5
Constellation 5 | We Can Push It Further!

Increases the Level of The Three Principles of Power by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.

Iansan’s ATK buff cap scales with her Elemental Burst’s levels, so this Constellation is a strong buff to her support capabilities.

Constellation 6
Constellation 6 | Teachings of the Collective of Plenty

The Kinetic Energy Scale’s duration is increased by 3s.
Additionally, when Iansan triggers Nightsoul point restoration, if there is any overflow, she will gain the Extreme Force effect, which increases the DMG dealt by your current active character by 25% for 3s.

Increases Iansan’s Burst duration by 3 seconds for a total duration of 15s. Additionally, if Iansan’s Nightsoul points overflow from her Kinetic Energy Scale’s restoration, she will buff the active character with 25% DMG Bonus for 3s.

Since this Constellation requires frequent Nightsoul regeneration to have significant uptime, it is mainly beneficial for Natlan characters and Plunging Attack DPS, as they move enough to consistently proc it. Natlan characters also benefit from the extra restoration from Iansan’s A1 Passive.

Combos

Combo Notation

  • N = Normal Attack
  • E = Elemental Skill
  • Q = Elemental Burst
  • > = switch character
E N1 QIansan’s default combo. Use a Normal Attack to activate her A1 Passive.
E QIansan’s combo at C2 or higher for a shorter field time, used when the additional Electro application from her enhanced Charged Attack is not needed.
Q > Team > E N1Iansan can use her Elemental Burst early in the rotation to set up reactions (e.g., in Chevreuse teams), though this compromises buff uptime.

ER Requirements

Calcs for ER requirements can be found here (last updated for Version 5.5).

The following table assumes Favonius procs when applicable and that Iansan receives energy from 2pc Scroll. Additional Favonius procs lower ER requirements by ~20-30%.

Circlet
ATK% / ERATK%ATK% / CRIT Rate (Favonius)

Stat Priority: ER (until requirement) > ATK% > CRIT Rate (Favonius)

Iansan’s buff is tied to her Burst, so meeting her ER requirements is vital. In addition to getting enough ER, Iansan should stack ATK% to improve her buff.

Artifact Sets

4pc Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City
As a Natlan Electro character, Iansan can activate the full 4pc Scroll effect for a massive 40% Elemental DMG Bonus to Electro and any Elements she reacts with. This makes it her recommended option for the vast majority of her teams, the exception being if there is already a 4pc Scroll holder or if she cannot react with the desired Element (i.e. Anemo or Geo).

Furthermore, the 2pc effect reduces Iansan ER requirements.

4pc Noblesse Oblige
A viable alternative to 4pc Scroll, 4pc Noblesse provides a teamwide 20% ATK buff upon using Iansan’s Burst. The buff also applies to herself, which helps her reach her ATK buff’s cap.

2pc Mixed Sets
2pc Set Bonuses: ATK%, Energy Recharge, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

2pc combinations that either increase Iansan’s ATK buff or help her reach her ER requirements. Primarily placeholder options, though they can be used if Iansan’s teammates already equip 4pc Scroll/Noblesse.

Weapons

5★ Calamity Queller
Calamity Queller’s high Base ATK and the copious amounts of ATK% from its passive make it Iansan’s Best-in-Slot weapon when her ER Requirements are low.

5★ Engulfing Lightning
Engulfing Lightning’s high Base ATK, the ER from its secondary stat and passive, and its minor ATK% buff make it an all around excellent weapon for Iansan when her ER Requirements are high.

4★ Favonius Lance
Iansan’s best 4-star option, Favonius Lance combines a high Base ATK with an ER secondary stat. The particles from its passive allow Iansan to battery herself and her teammates.

Using a Crit Rate Circlet is recommended to ensure Iansan consistently procs the passive.

5★ Vortex Vanquisher
Vortex Vanquisher’s high Base ATK and ATK% substat make it a great option when Iansan’s ER Requirements are low. The ATK it provides is second only to Calamity Queller.

5★ Skyward Spine
As a standard banner 5-star weapon, Skyward Spine is a solid stat stick with its high Base ATK and ER substat.

5★ Lumidouce Elegy, Staff of Homa
Other 5-star weapons that help Iansan meet her ATK buff cap with their high base ATK and ATK-boosting passives. Decent options on Iansan when her ER requirements are low.

4★ Missive Windspear
An event weapon from Version 3.1, Missive Windspear offers plenty of ATK% through its secondary stat and passive, and is a great choice when Iansan’s ER requirements are low. Note that its 10s ATK% passive doesn’t have full uptime.

4★ Tamayuratei no Ohanashi
This free event weapon from Version 5.4 is a viable and easy-to-build-around alternative to Favonius Lance, as it has an identical Base ATK and ER without the need for Crit Rate. Its 10s ATK% passive doesn’t have full uptime on Iansan.

4★ Prospector’s Drill, Wavebreaker’s Fin, Lithic Spear
Other 4-star options that help Iansan meet her ATK buff cap. These limited 4* weapons provide ATK% via their secondary stats and passives, making them strong in situations where Iansan’s ER requirements are low.

4★ The Catch, Prototype Starglitter
An option if none of the above weapons are available. The Catch and Prototype Starglitter offer an ER secondary stat to help Iansan meet her ER requirements and are permanently available to all players.

Teambuilding

Iansan — DPS — Flex — Flex

Iansan is best paired with ATK-scaling damage dealers, and increases their damage with both her Burst’s ATK buff and the full 4pc Scroll DMG% buff. Because of her Burst’s unique movement mechanic, she is best utilized by characters that cover significant horizontal or vertical distance during their field time. However, units that snapshot their damage shortly after Iansan casts her Burst, while her Nightsoul points are still high, can still use Iansan as a support with decent efficiency.

Iansan also provides healing to the on-field character through her A4 Passive; however, the amount healed is small and may make the on-field experience uncomfortable as the only source of sustain in the team.

Though not ideal, Iansan can still be used to give the 4pc Scroll buff to non-ATK-scaling DPS, especially if they can trigger her C6.

Notable Teammates

Natlan On-Fielders
Natlan DPS units like Varesa, Mavuika, Kinich and Chasca all have highly mobile playstyles and can maintain uptime on Iansan’s higher ATK buff. They also restore extra Nightsoul points to Iansan through her A1 Passive, and are among the few units that can frequently trigger Iansan’s C6.

Since most Natlan on-field DPS units are so mobile, they also benefit from not having to stay within Bennett’s circle — especially Kinich.

Plunge Damage Dealers
Jumping and plunging provides plenty of vertical movement to maintain Iansan’s higher ATK buff, which makes her a solid support for characters like Gaming and Xiao. In multi-target and multi-wave content, they also appreciate the freedom of not being confined to a circle.

Note that Iansan cannot buff Xiao with 4pc Scroll, and should equip a different support set instead.

Clorinde
Clorinde’s Normal Attacks and Skill lunges during Night Vigil provide just enough movement to let her maintain Iansan’s higher ATK buff. In Clorinde’s teams with Chevreuse, Iansan is one of the few Electro/Pyro units that can activate the full 4pc Scroll effect to buff her.

However, Iansan has the caveat of her Burst cooldown forcing Clorinde into longer 18s rotations. In teams with Chevreuse and Mavuika, pre-C2 Iansan can also have uptime issues on her buff.

Xianyun
Xianyun lets any character play as a Plunge DPS with enough movement to keep sufficient uptime on Iansan’s higher ATK buff. Her Skill covers a great amount of vertical and horizontal distance, which ensures Iansan’s Nightsoul points are high before the team’s DPS takes the field.

Xianyun also has excellent synergy with the aforementioned Plunge DPS units

Chevreuse
Chevreuse has great synergy with several on-field units that move enough to maintain Iansan’s buff, including Mavuika, Varesa, and Clorinde. Chevreuse’s kit incentivizes teams with only Electro and Pyro characters, which makes Iansan a Scroll-bot option even with characters that are unable to keep uptime on her ATK buff (though Mavuika/Pyro Traveler/Ororon are often better choices).

Note that Iansan has no off-field Electro application and needs to be paired with a second Electro unit to consistently trigger Overloaded.

“Snapshotters”
Characters with abilities that snapshot (like Fischl, Xiangling, or Beidou) do not have to worry about maintaining Iansan’s buff. This lets them pair with Iansan even in teams that are unable to keep much buff uptime, as long as they deal a significant proportion of the team’s damage.

However, if the team has both characters that snapshot and characters that do not, Iansan’s viability drops. Additionally, characters like Fischl may refresh and re-snapshot their abilities during Iansan’s Burst downtime, losing out on her buffs for their second damage window.

Other Possible Synergies
Characters that frequently use dash or jump cancels like Hu Tao, Alhaitham, or Arlecchino can maintain some uptime on Iansan’s buff. This may make running Iansan worthwhile if they can also take advantage of the large DMG Bonus from 4pc Scroll, and if players dash around enemies rather than into them. Her synergy with these characters improves with higher Constellations.

Testing is still ongoing to determine Iansan’s viability in these teams.

Scroll-Bot Iansan
Since Iansan is a Natlan unit, she can activate the full effect of 4pc Scroll to buff any teammates whose Element she can react with. This lets her slot in as a flex buffer in teams that cannot maintain her ATK buff but appreciate the large DMG Bonus.

However, with minimal uptime on her ATK buff, Iansan faces stiff competition from other Natlan Scroll holders that offer more buffs or personal damage.

Example Teams

This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Iansan — Varesa — Furina — Xianyun

With Iansan’s ATK buff, Furina’s DMG Bonus, and Xianyun’s Plunging Attack buff, this team allows Varesa to dish out impressive damage. Varesa’s dynamic Plunge playstyle also covers plenty of distance, both vertically and horizontally, which easily keeps Iansan’s Nightsoul points above 42 for the higher ATK buff.

Sample Rotation
Furina ED Q > Iansan E N1 Q > Xianyun N1 EPQ > Varesa combo

Iansan — Mavuika — Citlali — Bennett / Xilonen

Iansan can replace either Bennett or Xilonen in Mavuika’s usual Melt team, generating more Fighting Spirit for Mavuika in addition to her Flat ATK buff. Citlali can hold 4pc TotM or 4pc Instructor if Iansan is on 4pc Scroll. Alternatively, Iansan can use a 2pc mixed set or 4pc Noblesse (if neither Bennett nor Xilonen are already holding it).

Sample Rotation (Bennett)
Mavuika tE > Bennett EQ > Iansan E N1 Q > Citlali EQ > Mavuika combo

Sample Rotation (Xilonen)
Mavuika tE > Xilonen E(Q) N2 > Iansan E N1 Q > Citlali EQ > Mavuika combo

Iansan — Kinich — Mavuika — Bennett / Emilie

Iansan pairs well with Kinich as she provides both her own Flat ATK buff and 4pc Scroll’s full 40% DMG Bonus without interrupting his Burning uptime. Bennett provides more buffs for Kinich and Mavuika, but he limits Kinich to a circle, restricting the freedom of movement that is one of Iansan’s biggest perks. Meanwhile, Emilie allows for easier Scroll setup, frees Kinich from “Circle Impact,” and contributes high personal damage.

Sample Rotation (Bennett)
(Kinich Q)1 > Iansan E N1 Q > Bennett EQ > Mavuika tE Q > Kinich shE (Q) combo

1First rotation only.

Sample Rotation (Emilie)
Emilie Q/E > Iansan E N1 Q > Mavuika tE1 Q > Kinich shE (Q) combo

1In the first rotation, use Mavuika tE before Iansan’s abilities.

Iansan — Chasca — Bennett — Furina

Chasca can maintain Iansan’s ATK buff uptime as long as she constantly moves during her aerial state. This can be achieved by hovering around while charging up her bullets. On top of the Flat ATK buff, Iansan grants Chasca a 40% DMG Bonus buff from 4pc Scroll and Electro bullet conversion, which is helpful to max out Chasca’s A1 Passive.

Sample Rotation
Furina ED Q > Bennett EQ N11 > Iansan E N1 Q > Chasca E 4[C] (C/Q)2 > (Bennett E)3

1Make sure Pyro aura is reapplied if Furina Vapes it off. Only works with C6 Bennett.
2Burst when available, otherwise hold Chasca’s Charged Attack until she falls to the ground.
3Can use another Bennett Skill to meet his ER requirements.

Iansan — Gaming — Bennett — Citlali

As Gaming constantly moves, both horizontally and vertically, he easily keeps Iansan’s Nightsoul points above 42 for the higher Flat ATK buff. If Citlali is on 4pc Scroll, Iansan can use 4pc Noblesse (if Bennett is using 4pc Instructor) or 2pc mixed sets.

Sample Rotation
Bennett E > Iansan E N1 Q > Bennett Q E > Citlali EQ > Gaming Q 5-6[EP]

Iansan — Clorinde — Chevreuse — Mavuika / Thoma

Iansan’s buffs generally synergize well with Clorinde. There can be reduced uptime on the Flat ATK buff in the first rotation, since Iansan has to use either her Skill or Burst to enable Overloaded for Chevreuse’s A4, but this does not occur in subsequent rotations.

Players should make sure not to lunge into the enemy’s hitbox with her Skill as this leads to shorter distance traveled compared to lunging to the sides.

This rotation requires C1+ Thoma.

Sample Rotation (Mavuika)
Opener: Mavuika tE > Iansan Q > Chevreuse hE Q > Iansan E N1 > Mavuika Q > Clorinde E combo

Ongoing Rotation: Chevreuse hE Q > Iansan E N1 Q > Mavuika EQ > Clorinde E combo Q

Sample Rotation (Thoma)
Opener: Thoma EQ > Iansan E N1 Q > Chevreuse Q hE > Clorinde E combo

Ongoing Rotation: Iansan N1C > Chevreuse hE1 N1 > Clorinde Q > Thoma EQ > Iansan E N1 Q > Clorinde E combo

1If Chevreuse is pre-C4, use Clorinde’s Burst first.
