  • Competes with Xilonen as a support for Geo damage dealers

Playstyles

Normal Attack Support

Yun Jin’s main and only role is as a Normal Attack buffer. Her Elemental Burst provides an Additive Base DMG Bonus to Normal Attack hits, favoring characters with fast multi-hit Normal Attacks. Her performance drops in scenarios where her buff’s trigger quota of 30 hits is reached.

Talents

Talent Priority

Character Level > Burst

Yun Jin’s buff scales with her DEF. Since there’s not a lot of ways to increase a character’s DEF stat, it is highly recommended to raise Yun Jin to Level 90 to maximize her buff.

Yun Jin’s whole kit revolves around using her Burst to buff teammates’ Normal Attacks, so leveling her Elemental Burst is a priority. Her Elemental Skill could be leveled for extra damage but it isn’t necessary.

Talent Overview

Normal Attack
Normal Attack | Cloud-Glazing Strike

Normal Attack
Performs up to five consecutive spear strikes.

Charged Attack
Consumes 25 stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to opponents along the path.

Plunging Attack
Plunges from above to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along its path and dealing AoE damage upon impact.

Yun Jin’s Normal Attacks are not used for her main playstyle and should not be leveled. They are average compared to other Polearm characters. She does have 2 multi-hit attacks that can benefit more from her Elemental Burst and Crescent Pike’s passive if used as an on-field Physical DPS.

Elemental Skill
Elemental Skill | Opening Flourish

Press
Flourishes her Polearm in a cloud-grasping stance, dealing Geo DMG.

Hold
Takes up the Opening Flourish stance and charges up, forming a temporary shield. DMG Absorption is based on Yun Jin’s Max HP and has 150% effectiveness against all Elemental DMG and Physical DMG. The shield only lasts until she finishes unleashing her Elemental Skill.

When the Skill is released, when its duration ends, or when the shield breaks, Yun Jin will unleash the charged energy as an attack, dealing Geo DMG. Based on the time spent charging, it will either unleash an attack at Charge Level 1 or Level 2.

Yun Jin’s Elemental Skill has a Tap and a Hold version with the Hold version having 2 Charge Levels. The Tap version generates 2 Geo Particles, the Charge Level 1 version generates 2.5 Geo Particles and the Charge Level 2 version generates 3 Geo Particles. It is generally recommended to use the Tap version.

During any Hold versions, Yun Jin will generate a temporary shield for herself that prevents her from being staggered and allows her to activate Geo Resonance’s RES Shred on hit. Hold versions are generally not recommended as they have a long cast time of up to 2.5s. Unlocking Yun Jin’s A1 Passive allows her to situationally get a Charge Level 2 Skill without its long cast time if used right as she is about to be hit. However, this should not be relied on.

Elemental Burst
Elemental Burst | Cliffbreaker’s Banner

Deals AoE Geo DMG and grants all nearby party members a Flying Cloud Flag Formation.

Flying Cloud Flag Formation
When Normal Attack Damage is dealt to opponents, Bonus Flat DMG will be dealt based on Yun Jin’s current DEF.

The effects of this skill will be cleared after a set duration or after being triggered 30 times.

When one Normal Attack hits multiple opponents, the effect is triggered multiple times according to the number of opponents hit. The number of times that the effect is triggered is counted independently for each party member with Flying Cloud Flag Formation.

Yun Jin’s Elemental Burst is the bulk of her kit. It provides a significant Additive Base DMG Bonus to your party members’ Normal Attacks for up to 30 hits per party member. This Additive Base DMG Bonus scales with Yun Jin’s DEF and does not snapshot her stats on Elemental Burst cast.

Yun Jin’s Additive Base DMG Bonus does not factor in a character’s Normal Attack Talent multipliers nor their ATK stats. It instead scales with the rest of their stats, such as DMG%, CRIT, and any other multiplicative stats like enemy RES Shred and Vaporize / Melt multipliers. Here’s an infographic showing where her buff is applied when calculating damage:

Infographic by Swiftfyre

Characters with Normal Attacks that are fast, have multi-hits, or have poor scaling tend to benefit more from Yun Jin’s Additive Base DMG Bonus as it is separately applied to each hit and buffs them all equally regardless of their multipliers.

Ascension 1 Passive
Ascension 1 Passive | True to Oneself

Using Opening Flourish at the precise moment when Yun Jin is attacked will unleash its Level 2 Charged (Hold) form.

Yun Jin’s A1 Passive allows her to unleash a Charge Level 2 Skill without its long cast time if used right as she is about to be hit. This should not be relied on.

Ascension 4 Passive
Ascension 4 Passive | Breaking Conventions

The Normal Attack DMG Bonus granted by Flying Cloud Flag Formation is further increased by 2.5%/5%/7.5%/11.5% of Yun Jin’s DEF when the party contains characters of 1/2/3/4 Elemental Types, respectively.

Yun Jin’s A4 Passive improves her Elemental Burst’s Additive Base DMG Bonus based on the number of Elements in the party. This is a nice boost to her buff; however, it is not recommended to prioritize maximizing this passive over other team synergies.

Constellations

Calcs for Constellation DPS increases can be found here (last updated for Version 3.1).

Constellation 1
Constellation 1 | Thespian Gallop

Opening Flourish’s CD is decreased by 18%.

Reduces Yun Jin’s Elemental Skill cooldown by around 1.6s. This Constellation can be relevant in some teams where Yun Jin casts a second Elemental Skill to alleviate her high ER requirements.

Constellation 2
Constellation 2 | Myriad Mise-En-Scène

After Cliffbreaker’s Banner is unleashed, all nearby party members’ Normal Attack DMG is increased by 15% for 12s.

Gives party members a 15% Normal Attack DMG buff. This Constellation is among her strongest Constellations.

Constellation 3
Constellation 3 | Seafaring General

Increases the Level of Cliffbreaker’s Banner by 3.

A significant upgrade to Yun Jin’s Elemental Burst. This Constellation is among her strongest Constellations and is a great stopping point.

Constellation 4
Constellation 4 | Flower and a Fighter

When Yun Jin triggers the Crystallize Reaction, her DEF is increased by 20% for 12s.

A small boost to Yun Jin’s DEF that increases the Additive Base DMG Bonus provided by her Elemental Burst.

Constellation 5
Constellation 5 | Famed Throughout the Land

Increases the Level of Opening Flourish by 3.

Yun Jin’s Elemental Skill is a negligible portion of her team’s damage, making this Constellation rather weak.

Constellation 6
Constellation 6 | Decorous Harmony

Characters under the effects of the Flying Cloud Flag Formation have their Normal ATK SPD increased by 12%.

While Yun Jin’s Elemental Burst stacks are active, party members will get a 12% Normal ATK SPD buff. This can range from being Yun Jin’s best Constellation for ranged units to being a negligible damage increase for some melee units that suffer from hit lag.

Artifacts

ER Requirements

Calcs for ER requirements can be found here (last updated for Version 5.3).

Yun Jin’s ER requirements are usually very high as she doesn’t generate many Geo Particles. Casting her Elemental Skill twice per rotation, using its Hold version, pairing her with other Geo characters, or running a Favonius Lance can all alleviate her ER requirements.

The following table assumes Favonius procs and different Yun Jin Skill casts when applicable. Each additional Favonius proc reduces Yun Jin’s ER requirements by 10–30%.

Without FavoniusWith Favonius
With Xilonen (Funnel to Yun Jin)160–200%135–165%
With Zhongli (75% pillar hit rate)210–265%170–210%
With other Geo180–225%155–185%
Solo Geo240–270%195–210%

Use the Energy Recharge Calculator to determine exact requirements for your team and rotation. For more details on how Favonius weapons will affect your team, please use Ac1d’s Favonius Mastersheet.

Circlet
DEF% / Energy RechargeDEF%DEF%

Stat Priority: ER (until requirement) > CRIT Rate (Favonius) > DEF% > Flat DEF

Yun Jin needs her Elemental Burst to buff teammates and, for that reason, having enough ER is paramount. A CRIT Rate Circlet can be used if Yun Jin is holding a low-refinement Favonius Lance. Yun Jin’s buff scales with her DEF, so building DEF% on her is recommended.

We recommend using Genshin Optimizer to compare your actual artifacts.

Artifact Sets

4pc Husk of Opulent Dreams
4pc Husk of Opulent Dreams (Husk) provides a solid DEF% buff. To pre-stack this buff, wait 6s before starting a challenge, with Yun Jin off-field. This set is very easy to use, universal, and reliable.

2pc Mixed Sets
2pc Set Bonuses: DEF%, Energy Recharge, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

These 2pc combinations provide the 2 resources that Yun Jin cares about: DEF% and Energy.

Do note that to activate the 2pc effect of Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City, a Natlan character needs to be in the party. Xilonen can activate this 2pc effect twice, allowing 2pc mixed sets to surpass 4pc Husk in teams that require the Energy.

4pc Noblesse Oblige
4pc Noblesse Oblige (NO) is an alternative option to 4pc Husk that generally has similar or better performance in ATK-scaling teams. Yun Jin should not prioritize this set as other teammates would often be holding it.

4pc Archaic Petra
4pc Archaic Petra (AP) provides a big DMG% buff to the Pyro / Hydro / Electro / Cryo (PHEC) Element that Yun Jin reacts with. However, picking up the Crystallize shard to get the buff can be tough against some enemies. Teams with only 1 PHEC Element can use this set more reliably.
Scroll of Cinder City
4pc Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City
4pc Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City (Scroll) is an alternative to 4pc Husk and 4pc NO, providing a small DMG% buff to the PHEC Element Yun Jin reacts with. Similarly to 4pc AP, triggering Crystallize on the correct Element can be a challenge in some teams. In teams with Natlan characters, this set also decreases Yun Jin’s ER requirements.

Weapons

4★ Footprint of the Rainbow
Footprint of the Rainbow is a craftable weapon and the only DEF% Polearm. It provides a very large amount of stats, and if Yun Jin can meet her ER requirements through her Artifacts, this weapon can be her strongest option.

5★ Engulfing Lightning
Engulfing Lightning is the highest-ER stat stick Yun Jin can hold. It is a comfortable option to meet her high ER requirements.

4★ Favonius Lance (R5)
Favonius Lance is generally only recommended at R5 for teams that benefit from its extra Energy generation or when Yun Jin is the only Geo unit.

However, this weapon requires a high amount of CRIT Rate to work, due to Yun Jin’s low hit count. If your artifacts cannot provide ~45% CRIT Rate, you are better off using Prototype Starglitter or the Catch due to their higher ER secondary stats.

In teams with extremely high ER requirements (300%+ ER without using Favonius), Favonius Lance is required.

4★ Rightful Reward
Rightful Reward is a craftable weapon with a passive that restores 16 Energy to Yun Jin, provided she receives healing. This effect can trigger even if she is healed off-field, making it a solid option for Yun Jin in such teams.

This weapon can also be her strongest Energy option if the effect triggers 2 times per rotation. This can be achieved even with on-field single-target healers if Furina is on the team, due to her A1 Passive.

4★ The Catch, Prototype Starglitter
These ER stat sticks are some of Yun Jin’s better 4-star options for general use as they aren’t limited by conditional passives, unlike Favonius Lance and Rightful Reward.

Teams

  • N = Normal Attack
  • C = Charged Attack
  • A = Aimed Shot
  • P = Plunging Attack
  • E = Elemental Skill
  • tE = Tap Skill
  • hE = Hold Skill
  • Q = Elemental Burst
  • D = dash (cancel)
  • J = jump (cancel)
  • W = walk (cancel)
  • > = switch character
  • ( ) = these actions are optional; please refer to the notes below
  • [ ] = repeat these actions the specified number of times

Teambuilding

  • Yun Jin’s teams usually center around buffing an on-field Normal Attack DPS.
  • A second Geo character is often paired with Yun Jin to provide Geo Resonance and some Geo Particle generation to lower Yun Jin’s high ER requirements.

Notable Teammates

Geo Duo

The following units pair well with Yun Jin to enable Geo Resonance and provide Geo Particles.

Zhongli
Zhongli provides a strong shield and Universal RES Shred. He can easily maintain Geo Resonance with Yun Jin and can provide some Geo Particles, although inconsistently.

Xilonen
Xilonen provides healing, RES Shred for PHEC Elements and a DMG% buff via 4pc Scroll. She generates 4 Geo Particles that she can funnel into Yun Jin if swapped fast enough. Her Elemental Skill has a short cooldown, meaning she can generate this Energy twice per rotation if the team permits it. Xilonen can activate the 2pc effect of Scroll twice, allowing 2pc mixed sets to surpass 4pc Husk in teams that require the Energy.

Both Xilonen and Yun Jin have no off-field Geo application, so maintaining Geo Resonance can be unreliable without a shielder.

Do note that with this pairing, Xilonen would lose her RES Shred capabilities and healing if a third non-PHEC character is on the team.

Kachina
Kachina can act as a budget Xilonen by providing a DMG% buff via 4pc Scroll. Her Elemental Skill generates Geo Particles from off-field. Unlike Xilonen, Kachina has off-field Geo application, maintaining Geo Resonance more reliably; however, she does not heal, meaning you must seek out sustain in one of your other teammates.

Kachina can bypass her long 20s Elemental Skill cooldown at C2 by using her Elemental Burst instead every other rotation. This, however, reduces her Geo Particle generation, increasing Yun Jin’s ER requirements.

Chiori, Albedo
Chiori and Albedo can act as fine pairings with Yun Jin. They generally only provide their personal damage, off-field Geo application for good Geo Resonance uptime, and off-field Geo Particle generation.

At C1 or in Triple Geo with Zhongli, Chiori becomes a more competitive option.

On-Field Normal Attack DPS

The following units’ primary source of damage is their Normal Attacks or they perform a lot of Normal Attacks to justify the inclusion of Yun Jin in their teams.

The specified ranges of Normal Attack hits below take into account skill of execution, combos, rotation length, and whether Yun Jin is C6. These are not strict bounds.

Yun Jin’s trigger quota is 30, meaning she only buffs up to 30 hits within her 12s Elemental Burst duration.

Clorinde
Normal Attack hits: 36 to 41
AoE: Yes

Clorinde can easily reach Yun Jin’s buff trigger quota. While Clorinde tends to prefer reaction teams, her Yun Jin teams still perform decently well in single-target, especially when paired with Xilonen to lower Yun Jin’s ER requirements.

Yoimiya
Normal Attack hits: 21 to 27
AoE: No

Yun Jin’s performance in Double Geo Yoimiya teams is similar to Bennett’s at equal Constellation levels. Pairing Yun Jin and Bennett together is also a viable option.

Arlecchino
Normal Attack hits: 18 to 20
AoE: Some

Arlecchino has very strong multipliers, making Yun Jin less than ideal for her. Nonetheless, Yun Jin can be paired with Zhongli to form a comfortable team.

Hu Tao
Normal Attack hits: 10 to 16
AoE: Some

Hu Tao’s primary source of damage is her Charged Attacks; however, she performs 1 or 2 Normal Attacks alongside each of them when performing her combo.

In a Hu Tao Vaporize team, Yun Jin serves as a second Geo alongside Zhongli, with similar performance to Albedo.

Ayato
Normal Attack hits: 15 to 17
AoE: Yes

Ayato’s attacks have good AoE, utilizing Yun Jin’s buff more effectively against 1 or 2 enemies. Yun Jin is a strong buffer for Ayato but may not be worth running, as his teams rarely focus on his personal damage.

Wriothesley
Normal Attack hits: 15 to 21
AoE: No

Wriothesley mixes some Normal Attacks into his Charged Attack combos, leading to decent usage of Yun Jin’s buff.

Wanderer
Normal Attack hits: 14 to 24
AoE: No

Yun Jin usually takes the place of a shielder on Wanderer teams, making him perform fewer Normal Attacks if he needs to dodge. Her Normal Attack buffs discourage Wanderer from using his Charged Attack often, reducing the team’s effectiveness in multi-target scenarios.

Noelle
Normal Attack hits: 8 to 12
AoE: Yes

Noelle excels in multi-target scenarios. Due to her low Normal Attack hit count, Yun Jin’s performance does not decline in such scenarios. Yun Jin can use her Elemental Skill twice to funnel particles to Noelle.

Ningguang
Normal Attack hits: 10 to 18
AoE: Some (C1)

Ningguang’s Normal Attack is a multi-hit attack; however, her value generally resides in utilizing her Elemental Skill and Burst and quickswapping to use other teammates’ abilities.

Xilonen (On-Field Geo DPS)
Normal Attack hits: 12 to 14
AoE: Some

Alongside Gorou, Xilonen requires a third Geo character on the team, and usually Chiori, Albedo, or Yun Jin can fill that slot.

Zhongli (On-Field Physical DPS)
Normal Attack hits: 32 to 48
AoE: Some

Zhongli can easily reach Yun Jin’s buff trigger quota. His team generally consists of Fischl and Mika / Rosaria.

Yun Jin (On-Field Physical DPS)
Normal Attack hits: 24 to 30
AoE: Some

Do not play on-field Physical DPS Yun Jin.

Example Teams

This is not a comprehensive list of teams. The inclusion or exclusion of any given team does not necessarily reflect its power level.

Note that Yun Jin’s C6 may change some of the combos written below.

Yun Jin — Clorinde — Sara / Fischl — Xilonen

Yun Jin’s Additive Base DMG Bonus covers most of Clorinde’s combo in single-target scenarios. Xilonen provides Electro RES Shred and an Electro DMG% buff via 4pc Scroll while Sara gives a Flat ATK buff and some CRIT DMG via her C6. Do note that Electro Resonance does not provide any Energy in this team, increasing the team’s ER requirements compared to other Double Electro teams, and Geo Resonance is inconsistent as neither Xilonen nor Yun Jin apply Geo from off-field. If Sara or Yun Jin hold 4pc AP, they should dash to grab a Crystallize shard before swapping to Clorinde.

Sample Rotation (Sara)
(Xilonen Q)1 > Sara E C > Yun Jin E2 > Xilonen E N2 > Yun Jin Q > Sara Q > Clorinde E combo > Yun Jin E2 > Sara E > Clorinde Q > Xilonen E N2 > Yun Jin Q > Sara C > Clorinde E combo

1Use if you need healing.
2Triggers an extra Crystallize for Clorinde’s A1 Passive.

Sample Rotation (Fischl)
(Fischl Q)1 > Xilonen E N2 > (Fischl E/Q)2 > Yun Jin EQ > Clorinde E combo (Q)

1First rotation only.
2Skip in the first rotation.

Yun Jin — Yoimiya — Yelan — Zhongli

A comfortable Vaporize team where Yoimiya has access to a lot of buffs, including Yelan’s ramping DMG% buff, Yun Jin’s Additive Base DMG Bonus, Geo Resonance, and any buffing set Zhongli holds. Zhongli’s shield also universally shreds the RES of nearby enemies, which both Yoimiya and Yelan can take advantage of.

Sample Rotation
(Yoimiya Q) > Zhongli hED > Yelan EQ > Yun Jin hEQ > Yoimiya E combo

Yun Jin — Arlecchino — Bennett — Zhongli / Kachina (C2+)

Arlecchino’s high multipliers benefit less from an Additive Base DMG Bonus to her Normal Attacks. Nonetheless, Yun Jin still buffs her and makes up a comfortable Double Geo core alongside Zhongli or a character that generates Crystallize shields. Due to Arlecchino’s preference for shorter rotations, Kachina’s C2 is required to bypass her long Elemental Skill cooldown.

Sample Rotation (Zhongli)
Arlecchino E > Bennett EQ > Zhongli hED > Yun Jin EQ > Arlecchino C combo

Sample Rotation (Kachina C2+)
Arlecchino E > Bennett EQ > Kachina E/Q > Yun Jin EQ > Arlecchino C combo

Yun Jin — Hu Tao — Xingqiu — Xilonen / Zhongli

A Vaporize team with lots of mobility where Hu Tao’s Normal Attacks do a good portion of her damage when using her N2C combo. Xilonen provides Pyro and Hydro RES Shred and a Hydro DMG% buff via 4pc Scroll. She reduces Yun Jin’s ER requirements tremendously by funneling 2 Elemental Skill casts. Zhongli, on the other hand, is a more comfortable option providing a shield, some Pyro and Hydro RES Shred, and higher uptime on Geo Resonance.

Sample Rotation (Xilonen)
Xingqiu EDQ > Xilonen E N2 > Yun Jin EQ > Hu Tao E combo1 > Xilonen E N2 > Yun Jin E

1Use Hu Tao’s N2C combo to maximize Yun Jin’s buff.

Sample Rotation (Zhongli)
Zhongli hED > Xingqiu Q N1 E N2 > Yun Jin N1 E N1 Q N1 > Hu Tao E combo1 > Yun Jin E

1Use Hu Tao’s N2C combo to maximize Yun Jin’s buff.

Yun Jin — Ayato — Furina — Xilonen

Ayato’s Mono Hydro team can use Yun Jin instead of Yelan to further improve his personal damage. Note that, due to her short uptime, Yun Jin can only buff one of Ayato’s Elemental Skills. This team has a long rotation, allowing both Xilonen and Yun Jin to cast a second Elemental Skill, lowering the team’s ER requirements tremendously.

Sample Rotation
Xilonen Q > Furina ED Q > Xilonen E N2 > Yun Jin EQ > Ayato E N15+ > Xilonen E N2 > Yun Jin E > Ayato Q E N10+

Yun Jin — Wanderer — Faruzan (C6) — Bennett

Wanderer teams usually consist of Bennett, Faruzan, and a flex slot. A shielder can be used for comfort; however, offensive options like Yun Jin can lead to faster clear times. This team has very high ER requirements, thus it is strongly advised to have Faruzan’s C6 as well as 1 or 2 Favonius weapons.

Sample Rotation
Faruzan Q > Yun Jin EQ > Bennett EQ > Wanderer E combo (Q) > Bennett E N2

Yun Jin — Noelle — Furina — Yelan / Gorou

While Noelle has very slow Normal Attacks, her AoE is very large, allowing her to efficiently benefit from Yun Jin’s Additive Base DMG Bonus in multi-target scenarios. Due to low Geo Particle generation, Yun Jin and Gorou should swap to use their Elemental Skills and funnel their particles to Noelle. This team is great for showcasing high damage numbers on Noelle.

Sample Rotation (Yelan)
Furina ED Q > Yelan Q N1 E > Yun Jin Q N1 E > Noelle Q E N4D N4 > Yelan N1 E > Noelle N3 > Yun Jin E > Noelle N2

Sample Rotation (Gorou)
Gorou EQ > Furina ED Q > Yun Jin Q E > Noelle Q E N3D N3 > Gorou E > Noelle N4 > Yun Jin E > Noelle N4
